Тези

Under modern conditions of society development, the global community faces the challenge of achieving sustainable economic growth without destructive social and environmental impacts. With this in mind, it can be argued that the construction industry plays a key role as it affects the efficiency of the economy through the provision of fixed assets, the creation of a large number of jobs and the consumption of many resources from various related sectors. It should be noted that the development of construction in the country demonstrates how the state in the long term will be able to counteract global problems such as: changes in the climate; constant population growth, increasing anthropogenic impact on the environment.

The global construction market is constantly growing, primarily due to an increase in construction in developing countries. As of 2020, the global construction market is worth around USD 11,492.42 billion. It is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 9% to reach USD 12,526.4 billion by the end of 2021. The largest share of this market comes from Asia-Pacific, which accounted for around 42% in 2020. North America is in second place accounting for about 26% of the global construction market. Africa is the part of the world with the lowest share of the construction market [1].

According to the analysis of the world's foreign economic activity in 2020, the 27 countries of the European Union are the leading exporters of construction products and construction works [2]. China is in second place, but it should be noted that it is the de facto leading exporter of these products in the world, as the European region as a whole is considered. Although the Chinese construction company «Evergrande» faced a liquidity problem in August 2021 that could have led to a global crisis, the Chinese economy has held up, as the government has intervened and closed the debts of the company. It can therefore be argued that the Chinese economy is fairly resilient.

According to research, China is the real leader in value added by construction. The second place is occupied by the US, followed by the UK and Turkey. Compared to other countries, the added value in construction of Ukraine is quite low. It must be noted that the COVID-19 crisis has had a negative impact on the growth of the construction industry in the UK and the US. Analyzing the share of construction in GDP, the highest value is characteristic of the China, while in other countries this indicator varies between 5-6%. It should be noted that in Ukraine the share of the construction industry in GDP is rather low, but there is a tendency for it to grow, which indicates a slight increase in this sector.

The groups of cement mortars (code 3816 under the international classification) and rock wool materials (code 6806 under the international classification) were selected for consideration of the export activities of countries, as according Product Complexityrating they are the most difficult to produce among construction materials, taking respectively 378 and 238 places in the total list of products [10]. The largest exporters of this type of product are China, but it should be noted that these products have a rather low share in total exports (the same situation is observed in other countries as well). It is followed by the USA, the UK and Turkey. Ukraine has the lowest indicators. It is worth noting that only China has a tendency to increase export volumes of these products.

While considering the built-up area (the indicator includes only roofing buildings and structures), the US and China are the leaders. If we look at this indicator in a relative sense, the first place is occupied by the United Kingdom, where about 6% of the territory is built up with residential and non-residential buildings. It should be noted that there is a growing trend of built-up area in the world, which in turn has both a positive impact on the economy and a negative impact on the environment.

So, according to this analysis, China is the undisputed leader in the construction sector, primarily due to the country's significant production capacity and the peculiarities of its economic system. To summarize, construction plays an important role in sustainable development in any country, as it is a sector that combines economic, social and environmental impacts on the national economy.
